Malaga | Spain
Fly to Malaga with British Airways on Sundays.
If it's sun, sea and sangria you're yearning for, then the Costa del Sol is calling your name. Its many resorts include popular Torremolinos, upmarket Marbella, Benalmádena, Nerja and Frigiliana.
Indeed, there is about 160km of coastline on the Costa del Sol where you will find beautiful landscapes, fabulous beaches, and interesting customs and traditions - not to mention the charming white hinterland villages. The Costa del Sol is also gaining a reputation for its gastronomy and you'll find fantastic food here - from beach and tapas bars to Michelin-star restaurants, there's something to suit all tastes and pockets.
Golf is also popular on the Costa del Sol and there are courses all along the coastline and also in the mountains, including Alhaurin Golf Course designed by the late Seve Ballesteros.
You can still get your dose of culture here though and attractions don't get much more important than Picasso's Birthplace Museum - no visit here is complete without seeing what shaped the young Pablo. Soho Málaga is an Art District showcasing urban art and underground culture - quite a departure from the stereotypical "Costas" holiday. But it does tend to be all about the beach in this part of Spain and you might be surprised to hear that Malaga itself also has some lovely beaches that are well away from any traffic, separated by beautiful esplanades. It's a rare blend of city break and beach retreat, just 20 minutes from the airport.
